People at 10k subscribers: "Why I stopped chasing subscribers"
Yeah, thanks. Remember how you said Substack is not a business model, but a microphone? Try using the microphone when you have 10 subscribers, then come back and tell us how it worked.
Excellent reminder! One of the most valuable takeaways is that consistency does not always require creating more content and extracting more value from the content one has already created.
Creating general content attracts subscriptions, while solving specific niche problems is what eventually grows your audience while earning from your craft.
Thank you, Matt. This information is exactly what I needed to get right now, laid out in a way that I makes perfect sense. I'll reread and consider later, but I know this is going to be very helpful to me.
I should note that what I've gained is a better understanding of my audience's comings and goings, and how I was looking at analytics in the wrong way. I've been here 4 months only and am taking my time as I learn how this all works. I don't fit the creator profile you describe re: sources of revenue, other platforms, etc. but your posts and notes are sane and helpful.
I am a data girl, so this article was something I could munch on. So many of us just chasing the vanity numbers while we sleep on the numbers that count!
I’m getting used to selling more often and it feels good to read this article!
I’m new to this platform, publishing notes and articles, but so far it feels like I’m publishing to the void lol.

What’s that sarcasm?
Work on making that microphone bigger.
I started with 0 subs too.
worked my way up.
now that I’m a bit ahead, I talked about the fact that sub count is not the only metric.
I'm new to this platform—no YouTube channel, no x, no reddit, and still figuring out what will work here.
Cool article, great information

I just want to be able to pay my current bills and still be able to buy groceries. I don't need anything extra
Nice article Matt. I am actually shocked you are asserting selling from day one worked.
why?
Hey Matt. The reason is we have been taught to never try to sell at first impression. That's why I was surprised.
